Personal Reading Log Assessment 2: The Necklace
The story was about Madame Loisel attending a ball with her husband and wanted to look her best for that night. She went through the distance in her effort to get the look she desired and have borrowed a necklace from her friend, Madame Forestier. Unfortunately, at the end of the event, she lost the necklace and this is where her action has set course for the story and had cost her dearly. If she had been honest with Madame Forestier that she had lost the necklace instead of buying a new one, she would have learned that the necklace she borrowed was made of fake diamond.
She went through hardship for so long until it impacted her physically and mentally just to pay off the debt that she made to replace the necklace. All of that, only to later discover that the necklace she had lost was a fake and cost, not even a fraction of what she had paid for the replacement. This is the part where if I am to change the story, I would like to see that Madame Loisel to tell Madame Forestier the truth. By telling Madame Forestier the truth, it would save her from all the misery that she and her husband had gone through. Personally, I really felt that it wasn't necessary for her to borrow the necklace in the first place. She would make it through the ball looking just fine by not wearing fancy stuff. This is how I would like the story to be, where Madame Loisel is a humble person who has nothing but gratitude for what she has.
