A Haunted House by Virginia Woolf

1. In one paragraph, summarize what the story about. Highlight on the important points of the story. Write in one paragraph.
The story was about a person (the narrator herself) living in a house which she realized haunted by what she described as a "ghostly couple". The narrator stated that she can hear the ghostly couple talking to each other and was looking for something as it was clearly stated in this line: ‘Here we left it,’ she said. And he added, ‘Oh, but here too!’ ‘It’s upstairs,’ she murmured. ‘And in the garden,’ he whispered. ‘Quietly,’ they said, ‘or we shall wake them.’ The way the narrator describe the ghostly couple was as if they were reminiscing their time together living in that house while searching for the buried treasure they left. The ghostly couple never appear physically or visually to the narrator. She just felt their presence through sound of a door shutting, or any creaking sound the house made. She had this feeling going on for quite sometime now that she kind of learned the history of the ghostly couple which used to live in the house hundreds of years ago. Finally, the narrator conclude that the ghostly couple has finally found the "treasure" they have been looking for and they found it within her and her husband which was their love for one another and they call it "the light in the heart".
2. What can you learn from the story? Use your own words to describe your opinion on things that you can learn from the short story.
What I have learned from the story was, love can be everlasting, especially for a couple. It is a special bond between two living soul so strong even death wouldn't break it. People always said in their vow "til death do us part", but to the narrator, it is the opposite and I kind of agree with her on that matter. A couple may go through all the ups and downs throughout their relationship and still end up at the other end standing strong. Through the journey, memories are created and that what makes the bond stronger than ever. In the end, we will all leave this world but the memories of joy and love remains. This is what I've learned from this story.
